The Reckoning Legacy of the King Pirates edition by MaryLu Tyndall Romance eBooks

I have been a fan of MaryLu's since she released her first novel, "The Redemption." In fact, her hero, Captain Merrick, was the inspiration for my son's name. As the fifth book in the Legacy of the King's Pirates, "The Reckoning" does not disappoint.

Time travel, pirates, sea battles, romance, adventure, hidden treasure, Biblical teachings - who doesn't want all of that in a novel?

Morgan Shaw is a modern woman from 2015 who happens to be dying. While trying to hide from the guy who dumped her, she stumbles upon the key to time travel and wakes up 300 years in the past on a real pirate ship. But this is all staged by her rich father, right?

Rowan Dutton is a man who has spent the last two years chasing the elusive treasure to make amends for his past mistakes. A rogue and a pirate, Rowan can't believe that the woman who mysteriously appeared on his ship has turned his world upside down. Who does she think she is, making demands of him, a notorious pirate captain?

Their worlds collide when Morgan accidentally reveals the location of a treasure map. Now both of them are in danger from the enemy both human and spiritual. Will they surrender and trust in the One who knows all? Or will they succumb to the fear and greed that holds them? And when they both figure out what God wants from them, will it all be taken away?

"The Reckoning" is a well developed story. I loved the characters and felt I could relate to both Morgan and Rowan. There is violence, the normal violence you would expect from pirate battles and sword fights - none in graphic detail. For sexual content, there are references to "bedding," adultery, raping, and kissing - none of these are illustrated in graphic detail. The story is told from both Rowan and Morgan's perspectives. "The Reckoning" shows fictional characters who deal with very real problems that we face today, and tells of the One who is the answer to all those problems, if we only surrender, acknowledge and trust in Him.

The Reckoning Legacy of the King Pirates edition by MaryLu Tyndall Romance eBooks Reviews

Wasn’t expecting such a great read. I was looking for a book similar to Solomon’s swept away series and stumbled upon this one. So glad I did! Amazing read. Characters had amazing depth and though time travel, it had such a realistic feel to it, you can tell the author has done her homework for this time period. I absolutely loved the journey both H&H went through and the enlightenment they experienced together. I found it humanizing and relatable that the heroine had anxiety and OCD (some funny parts with her OCD acting up) and her healing and letting go of control was a part of her enlightenment. The hero.. sigh. Can we say dreamy? I looove when an author can bring a hero to life and make him a unique man with flaws and all-not just throw him into some perfect, super-macho male that grunts and growls type-stereotype. Rowan was flawed. I mean, a total womanizing, gambling, drinking, flawed, pirate. But he was sweet, protective, good intentioned, and oh so sexy. Im not a hugely religious person and obviously missed the Christian novel headlines somewhere prior to downloading, so while surprised at the heavy Christian tones that hit the book about 70% in, it did not deter me from the book. In fact, I would say it’s made me lean more towards wanting more clean books like this in my future. So in a way, I’m also converted ;) I’ll be looking for more of her books in the future.
Morgan Shaw just learned she has liver cancer and to make matters worse her boyfriend broke up with her because he couldn’t deal with it. Stuck at a tall-ship festival and trying to avoid her ex, she scurries down to the bowels of the ship, only to reemerge 300 years in the past. Can she come to terms with time travel? Will the hansom rouge Rowin steal her heart? Will she let him? As everything spins out of Morgan’s control, she has to find the strength to let go and allow God to lead her.

MaryLu Tyndall doesn’t disappoint. I really loved this book. I love how MaryLu can add so much depth to the story by her detailed descriptions. Everything flows amazingly well and I can always get so wrapped up in the story.

I loved how MaryLu really worked hard to mesh the two times together. So many times, no one could understand what Morgan was saying because she would talk about something from the 21st century or use our language. To me, what she said seemed so natural, but it definitely wouldn’t have to someone from 1694.

I really found myself identifying with Morgan. The message in this book about trusting God really resonated with me. More than any of MaryLu’s other books, this one really stuck me and made me take a closer look at how little I am willing to relinquish control to God. Morgan and her control issues were beautifully written.

Rowin was a great bad-boy. I really enjoyed seeing him change throughout this book, but I almost wish I could see more of his transformation later on in the book. I could see him growing all along, but then he seems to go the last mile in his character growth so suddenly. Regardless of this, I still loved him as a character and his role in the book.

I totally understand why it took so long for Moran to come to grips with being transported in time, but I almost wish she got over it a bit more quickly. I liked her as a character from the beginning, but I felt my patience for her whining wearing a bit thin. However, if she came to realize she was actually in 1694 earlier, she wouldn’t be able to brave nearly as much and I absolutely loved seeing this side of her from the beginning. It showed the potential of what she could become if not for her OCD and anxiety.

Lastly, my only real problem with the book is the time travel aspects. This isn’t really a complaint of how MaryLu tackled it because she did an excellent job combining the two worlds, but it has more to do with the theories of time travel. I was going to try and write out some of my thoughts on how the timeline would be affected with Morgan’s traveling back, but that would take way too much time and it would probably be more confusing than helpful. Let’s just say, I feel like some things couldn’t have happened as they did based on some of the theories of time travel, but that could just be because of how I think time travel should work and what theory I get behind.

Oh! Also, I was so ecstatic when Charlisse and Merrick made an appearance in this book! Having loved them ever since I read The Redemption years ago, I couldn’t be any happier to see that they are still doing well. It really was like getting to catch up with old friends.
